Emirate Lithium was a proud supporter of Nigeria’s first Future Minerals Summit.
The 2022 summit titled “LEVERAGING FUTURE MINERALS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”, organized by the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and sponsored by SoundCore, focused on propelling Nigeria’s place in the global rush to develop its vast deposits of future mineral resources such as lithium and tantalum and a host of other important minerals.
The summit was held in Nigeria’s Federal capital city Abuja on August 12 2022 and attended by dignitaries, mining professionals, and investors from around the world including Emirate Lithium CEO Lanre Afebuameh and COO Ronald Onosode.
The 2022 Future Minerals Summit addressed the growing demand for critical minerals such as Lithium, emphasizing the need for renewable energy sources as an alternative for the energy transition economy to secure a low-carbon future.
Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel Development, (Arch). Olamilekan Adegbite pointed to the growing demand for lithium globally and announced that Nigeria is endowed with very high-grade lithium ore deposits, putting her at the heart of global competition as world powers race to increase and safeguard their supply.
Additionally, the Director General of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency Dr. Abdulrazaq Garba (PhD) confirmed that there is an ongoing exploratory work being conducted by his agency in collaboration with NIMET to establish the pre feasibility studies of the 8 minerals outlined under the future minerals projects and noted that results coming in show that Nigerian lithium was particularly very rich.
He however implored investors to come in and carry out further exploratory work on the various mines noting that the work being done currently only covered less than 1% of the total area identified with presence of Spodumene because of the huge cost implications to the ministry.
The minister in his remarks assured potential investors that the Federal Government has put together a series of incentives including tax holidays to ensure a stable mining sector for all.
